Call of Duty: World at War
Xbox 360/ PS3/ Nintendo DS/ PS2/ PC/ Shoot 'em up/ 60 hZ/ Hardcore/Casual
The number of games released by Treyarch, Activision, n-Space*, Glu*, Rebellion* and Infinity Ward collectively in the Call of Duty series is unrivaled by pretty much any other game series. But with such quantity, will there be quality in this World War II theme from Treyarch, Activision, Glu, Rebellion and n-Space?
It's hard to know where to start, with a game that sells so many copies, worldwide. You can't always take it for granted that it will be a great game. However, many aspects initially make you feel that it is a game that justifies the opinions of the exceptionally high number of copies sold. Take, for example, the graphics. In my opinion, they are pretty textbook CoD, but that is anything but a bad thing. You feel like you are literally on the battlefield, when attacked by the clichéd "Banzai" Japanese soldier.
Online play is so massively multiplayer, it might aswell just abandon all single player campaign modes. But again, that isn't a bad thing. The multiplayer is highly addictive, but can be let down by monotonous gameplay and loudmouthed, squeaky and abusive users.
Now, here's the catch with World at War- an all new, original (in theory) game mode: Nazi Zombies. Hordes of brain-hungry, race-hating, undead scum is just a keypad punch away. Your player works their way through an unlimited number of levels, buying guns and ammo along the way. A fun filled extravaganza with a single downside of spending too much time on it. A half hearted, yet satisfying game improved marginally by this ingenious game mode.
